Not that I necessarily agree 100% with this post's title, but I suppose there's a case to be made...
So let's see... Were aquatic sports indeed to define sexy (as apparently a majority of voters in this latest poll seem to conclude), what factors would contribute to such a conclusion?...

Hm... off the top of my head I'm thinking grace, form, beauty in motion, and an inherent default 'sexiness' somewhat bear out as reasonable contributing factors to the apparent appeal of aquatic athletes. After all, we are talking about half-naked guys (or perhaps more accurately 3/4ths naked in this case)... constantly jumping in and out of water...
...and coming out looking equally gorgeous (sometimes even glistening).
Just Beautiful

So again, are aquatic athletes in fact 'the hottest' athletes on the face of the earth?... I'll say arguably yes, and arguably no (considering an equally strong case might've been made for gymnasts and rugby players). That said, to deny the inherent beauty these guys regularly show off in competition would be an injustice.
So I'll just settle with reaching a conclusion that were there in fact a textbook definition 'hot athlete' in a dictionary... more likely than not, participants in aquatic sports would have to be at or near the top in terms of most accurate illustration.

Perhaps the answer lies in the fact that swimmers, gymansts, and divers are toned, fit and uniformly developed over-all.
Some athletes have huge chests and large biceps and the rest of the body is underdeveloped .
Others are extremely thin like marathoners.
Gymnasts, swimmers and divers all fall into the over-all "ideal" development and fulfill the--as the French say--"beau ideal" of the male image.
Weightlifters and bodybuilders, I do not understand.
There is a porn star named Tim Hamilton who recently bulked up and I hope he's now stopped since further development would make him a cartoonish caricature of a man.
Matthew Rush has gone too far into the body development while Roman Heart has found the "beau ideal".
Athletes in the three disciplines above are usually carefuly groomed for neat hair and absence of chin stubble and that contributes greatly to fulfilling the Adonis type.
I think would include rugby players in that category of being perfectly proportional from head to toe (and reaching the 'Adonis' body type as well)... I do find it somewhat odd with rugby players, considering American football players tend to be more top heavy... but yeah, I think in general your theory might be onto something :-)
The middle of the road seems to be the physical ideal (at least in the classic greco/roman sense).
Personally, I tend to prefer a slightly more bulked up look, so I usually fall in line with the gymnastics/rugby voters in the previous poll. But swimmers/divers also happen to be well within my sphere of preference as well, so I really have no issues posting them up ^_^
I still take exception to including divers with swimmers.
If what you are asking has to do with the build of the athlete, divers don't develop the same build as swimmers at all.
Divers are gymnasts that happen to land in water instead of on a mat. What divers do is tumble.
That's a gymnastic act.
I agree, in part, with Red Cedar.
There is a greater common element with divers and gymnasts--height.
Divers and gymnasts are usually not as tall as swimmers. A long body is ungainly and awkward in acrobatic manoeuvres. Swimmers, on the other hand, have the advantage of body length.
I remember my team mates from school and the divers were all about a half-foot shorter than the swimmers.
Being shorter means the center of gravity is lower and my understanding is that means tumbling maneuvers are often easier to do.
I tend to like the bodies that are uniformly defined, lean, muscle. Swimmers usually fit that bill. As a matter of fact, the swimmer pictured here pointing at the foreground is about as perfect as male body can get, to my tastes. He's painfully neautiful.
Do you know anything about the bare-assed swimmer with the towel? He is intoxicatingly gorgeous to me and I'd love to know more about him and see other pictures.
What a beautiful site you curate - really well done and fun to read!
